TV

Posted on Twitter yesterday:

My first thought was not how much I'd miss a show I loved watching these last few years, but rather that this was justice for Lennon & co. firing - by email - Wendi McLendon-Covey, Carlos Alazraqui, and Mary Birdsong. If it was a creative decision to get rid of those three then what a horrible decision. More often than not the new officers were not only not funny, but also managed to make the funny stuff the others were doing less funny. If it was budgetary, they should have kept them and just made fewer episodes. While the first 5 seasons and the movie were great, season 6 was just OK. It had some funny moments, but not nearly as many as the previous seasons.

I've been planning on watching the new season of Mad Men when it came back, although I didn't know exactly when that was going to be. Then the other night while browsing the latest issue from my $1 Rolling Stone subscription, when I got to the very last page I saw this:

Awesome. So I set my VCR to tape it in case I forget about it.

Then last night I saw an ad for a new Greg Giraldo stand-up special premiering at the same time. It seems like Giraldo's on Comedy Central pretty often, although usually it's for roasts, which I have no interest in. Almost all of my favorite stand-up comedians are now either dead or doing other things, so this is pretty can't miss. I checked the listings and Mad Men airs twice back to back so I think I'll watch the Giraldo special and then the Mad Men premiere.

"Kegel can't peel a kiwi."

The first new Reno 911! in 2 1/2 months aired the other night and it was definitely worth the wait. My favorite parts were the intro hooker inspection, the popcorn machine in the briefing room, Terry talking about his job skills, and of course the new polygraph scene. The polygraph scene in Undercover At Burger Cousin, which I previously wrote about, was probably the funniest scene ever on the show, and this one was close behind. Hopefully there are a lot more polygraph scenes coming up in future episodes. Overall I thought this episode was better than Undercover At Burger Cousin since I liked the Jackie dying stuff better than the burger place stuff. I found the scene with Patton Oswalt crushed between cars talking about movies a little odd since he mentioned Antonioni's L'avventura, which I saw also wrote about not too long ago after recently seeing it again. Junior's line at the end of that scene was just priceless.

Boggle, anyone?

Last night's Reno 911! was bloody awesome. The season had been good up til last night, but in no way was I prepared for how hilarious last night's episode was. The burger joint scenes were OK, but all the rest of the scenes were just incredible. The polygraph scene was probably my favorite. It might be the best overall episode in the history of the show.

Also, last night, and the previous few nights as well, I've been having some very vivid and nightmarish dreams. Usually vivid dreams are great fun, especially when they end about when you were going to wake up anyway, and then you're 100% awake as soon as you wake up. But my dreams these last few nights have been so horrible and long lasting (usually in the past when I had a bad dream I'd realize it wasn't real and wake up right away), that it's had a lasting affect on me. Plus, the last few nights when I woke up afterwards, the happiness after realizing it was just a dream quickly faded when I realized it was the middle of the night, at least a couple hours before I was planning on getting up, and there's no way I can go back to sleep after that. Maybe tonight before I go to bed I'll change the CDs in my stereo so I have some different music to dream to.
